Mahindra's Innovation Bounty - A thumbs up!

Today newspaper mentioned A. Mahindra throwing a challenge to solve two problems in India on traffic stress and electricity shortages. Anyone who can come up with an innovative idea to develop a driver-less car and solar power kit and he is going to pay $1 million to the winner.
India has a lot of talent. In almost all such challenges by Facebook wherein one was supposed to find out bugs in their program, it was an Indian who won most of it but somehow due to lack of opportunities or lack of relevant degrees some bright minds are not able to be part of mainstream. Then, there is an issue of less investments in R&D in India. An initiative by a private organisation on such an important issue is a welcome step.
I think by now all the bright minds must have started using their minds and would come up with so many innovative ideas. I am more excited of such idea being put up and use of Indian brains for Indian use. I hope that more of it will come in the future and we will be able to solve some more of our country's problem with our bright brains and technology.

Are you fair!

Wherever I go, I see this obsession with being fair in India. Everyone wants to be fairer than what they really are. Not just girls, you can see big market for guy fairness creams. What is the problem with being dark?
People tell us Oh you have become dark, use some duppatta to cover your face when outside. I want to tell them I like Sun! I like it!
Girls and guys are sold like commodities in arrange marriage and one of the most favorite sentence is "ladki bhaut gori hai, ladka ekdum gora chitta hai". I mean as if only color is the reason anyone can be beautiful.
One of my African friend told how much obsession is there in Africa as well to be fair. Sometimes I wonder where it came from! We know the White population wants to have tan, they show it, they flaunt it and we the Blacks and Browns, we want to be Whites!
I completely agree that one should take care of oneself and skin as well. but I don't understand the fact that how and why fairness is completely commoditized amongst Blacks and Browns and how did we all ended up accepting the fact that "The fairer the better". It just sounds so funny that we accept this phrase for our color and not in our deeds! Is there any cream available to cure that!
Then there is another thing. I am not really sure what would happen if we get the results that we are actually looking for (in our complexion through the creams) but I wonder if it is just the dissatisfaction with what we have in any area in life!

Exciting times for Indian Politics

These are really exciting times for Indian Politics. Prime Ministerial Candidates interviewed on TV, a new party coming up and winning state elections, riot leaders, dharnas etc.
Who would have thought a party would come and campaign for few months and just remove the incumbents from their seats and pass with flying colors.Who would have thought that after coming to power they would use dharnas which was never seen in the past. He focussed on all the points the common man is unhappy about, VIP treatment, safety in Delhi, high inflation and using all the ways we would not expect a politician to use, at least not in the Independent India. Have you seen something like this happening in the past?
A probable PM candidate of Congress comes to a TV interview unprepared, unaware of what is going to be asked to him. He expected to talk about future issues wherein he was asked about his past. For such person with all of us having high expectations, it kind of ruined for him. Have you seen that happening in the past?
The PM candidate of other big party BJP, is accused of Anti Muslim Riots. Although BJP was itself skeptical about launching him but even they didn't have any choice and from last election's defeat they have learned a lesson not to launch same candidate again. There was and has been huge outcry against him but surprisingly he is getting a lot of support. Have you seen something like this happening in the past?
The current Delhi CM, is not trying to make friends with any of the Corporates. He filed an FIR against one of the richest man and Industrialist in the country. Have you seen anything like this happening in the past?
I don't know who is right and who is wrong but these sure are pretty exciting times.
